5.0 Drop-Top to bring you back to the 80's
There was a time, not too long ago, that the 5.0 Mustang was the modern All-American performance car. We know it came from the same era that brought us the Reliant and the Yugo but good luck trying to find one of those nowadays. The third generation Mustang lives on. Even today, you see these cars rolling around the local streets in varying condition - often driven by a youth who is proud just to have a set of wheels (which is how we all got our start loving cars right?) As we talked about earlier in the week, many of the Mustangs from this generation were hacked into race cars and modified with everything from radar detectors drilled into the dash-pad to superchargers.
What we’ve found for you today is a 5.0 that has managed to avoid the wrong-sized wrench and wire cutters. Have a look here on eBay Motors for the full listing and more photos.
The 5.0 GT surely had a unique look about it. The ground effects, large body molding, slatted tail-light lenses, and the luggage rack found on this car made for a strange combination but it undoubtedly worked well. One may argue that a white-on white convertible doesn’t make for a mean sports car, but like every 5.0 owner will tell you, “I bet it’s faster than your car.”
Under the hood lurks the famous motor which turns out 225hp at 4,200rpm. This car also has the classic Borg-Warner T-5 five-speed which adequately handled the roughly 260ft lbs of torque. Drop all of this into a package that is relatively light weight, and you have yourself a pretty fast car. Today’s example only has 62,000 miles on the clock which leaves plenty of life to have some fun with. Listed with buy it now price of $9,800, you could drive this car home and re-live the 80’s: Dust off your Van Halen cassette, leave your cell-phone behind, and head to Main Street to show up a few Camaro guys.
