Car of the Week - August 18th, 2011
Sports Car Market has chosen Anthony Linhorst’s 1970 Toronado GT as the Chubb Collector Car Insurance Car of the Week.

When Oldsmobile debuted the Toronado in 1966, it was the first front-wheel drive car in modern U.S. history. The model would evolve into a very successful luxury barge and remain in production into the 1990s, and FWD would become the proven standard of the entire industry. But during the car’s first generation (1966-1970), performance for the Toronado was actually quite sporty.
Anthony’s Toronado includes the special GT option, offered from 1968 to 1970. The package offered cold air induction, a performance camshaft, and a robust transmission, bringing 0-60 times down to an impressive 7.5 seconds.
These cars were undervalued for a number of years, but recent trends have shown a boost in value, with prices ranging from $6,500 for a decent driver to $12,500 for a nice show-quality car. Anthony’s looks like a super clean example that’s worth holding onto.
